While sailing in Trinidad, one spot we had yet to visit before we left the country – The island of Chacachacare (quite a mouthful).
This small island was completely empty of all boats on arrival and mostly stayed that way the 4 days we were there. The shoreline showed rundown and abandoned buildings, old roads and piers in crumbling condition. Just 40 years ago in between 1928 and 1984, this was home to Trinidad’s Leper Colony.
If you’re ever in Trinidad, I’d strongly suggest and exploration around this island, not only for the history but beautiful shallow bays full of turtles and a great hike to the top of the island to see far and wide.
